Nurse and Menopause Specialist

Sue has worked as a Nurse Practitioner for over 20 years and currently works as Advanced Nurse Practitioner and lead nurse at a busy GP practice in the heart of Royal Leamington Spa. She is an independent prescriber and trained in all aspects of nursing care, from caring for patients with minor illnesses and injuries through to complex longer term disease management. Her particular interest is in chronic disease management and in particular cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention. Sue is committed to helping patients optimise their quality of life by providing holistic evidence-based education to enable better self-care and for people to ultimately be able to manage their own (and their families) health, in the longer term and as independently as possible.

In 2018 Sue completed a MSc in advanced clinical practice and specialised in group consultations. One year later she went on to win two local primary care awards for introducing and piloting this innovative model within her own practice. She is a trained facilitator and has been involved in training other GP teams to implement group consultations both locally and nationally.

Most recently Sue has developed a passion for improving women’s health and has joined the team at Newson Health hoping to specialise in menopause management and hormone replacement therapy. This is an obvious fit under CVD prevention as it is well known that coronary heart disease remains the leading cause of death in women globally and those struggling with menopausal symptoms are at higher risk. Therefore, her priority moving forward is to disseminate knowledge and information to educate both patients and colleagues and to introduce systems to better identify and manage these patients within her own practice and community.

Outside of work, Sue writes for various nursing journals and sits on the editorial board for the Journal of General Practice Nursing. In her spare time, she is in the process of setting up a local menopause support group and volunteers as social secretary at her local tennis club. Sue enjoys being outdoors and particularly enjoys playing team tennis, gardening, golf and long walks with her husband and two dogs Mugie and Malfie.
