A University of Edinburgh graduate, Dr Katy Spencer Hammon has been a doctor for nearly 30 years and a GP for 25 years. She has always had a passion for women’s health and worked as a family planning doctor before qualifying as a GP. Katy continues to have an interest in family planning and is an experienced coil and implant fitter. She is also an NHS England appraiser, which involves undertaking annual reviews of other GPs to support them with their ongoing learning and practice.
Having experienced perimenopausal symptoms herself, Katy is fully aware of the symptoms women experience when going through hormonal changes. She understands that women don't only deal with their symptoms but often with the added challenges of balancing those symptoms with work, children and caring for elderly parents.
Katy aims to make hormone changes more manageable for women both by listening and talking with them, and through prescribing HRT and making lifestyle suggestions. Her greatest reward at work is a woman telling her “I feel like myself again”.
Outside of work Katy enjoys walking, home improvements, travel, film and meeting friends whilst trying to field two growing teenage boys.
