GP and Menopause Specialist

“My passion as a GP for over 25 years and a full-time working Mum with four children is for women’s health and well-being. I have had  a significant interest and training in managing the menopause and sexual health.”

Dr Catherine Coward graduated from the University of Birmingham Medical School in 1991 and completed her training in South Birmingham and shortly after became a member of the Royal College of General Practice, joining the Kings Norton Surgery where she was a partner for 25 years. During this time she was busy both developing her career and family. However, with more women presenting with menopausal symptoms such as brain fog, anxiety and altered mood, low libido and hot flushes actively promoted hormone replacement therapy (HRT) with great results.

Furthermore, Dr Coward has attended many training events including the British Menopause Special Skills module. She enjoys discussing women’s health and well-being around the menopause, allowing them to transition successfully into their period-free life with the many challenges that it can bring.

Catherine left NHS general practice in 2022 to work full time in clinical menopause care at Newson Health, alongside delivering menopause awareness training to both the private and public sector.

She is now a Fellow of the Royal College of GPs (FRCGP) and a member of both the International Menopause Society and the British Menopause Society, holding the Diploma of Reproductive and Sexual Health Care (DFSRH).

Her husband of 31 years is a doctor too who runs a domestic violence charity (WE:ARE) and is also a GP. Together, at times, they have job shared with four children who are now teachers, medical students and humanities undergraduates. Out of work Catherine enjoys staying fit, baking and walking in the Lake District and The Cotswolds.

Catherine’s cumulative experience is such that by combining her many years as a GP, with interests in women’s sexual and menopausal health, this allows her great freedom to discuss and offer a holistic evidence based approach to all women and overcome any barriers to get the best possible outcomes for all women.

You can see Catherine at our Stratford-upon-Avon clinic for an in person appointment.
